Camp Hill, the recently opened Outdoor Adventure Park near Bedale, has created a giant Birds of Prey themed Maize Maze which opens to the public on 1st August. With over 200,000 grains of maize planted which took about 90 days to grow, the four acres of maize promises to provide hours of fun for all ages this summer.
Robert Ropner, owner of Camp Hill, says, “This is the latest attraction to be added to our ‘Action and Adventure‘ outdoor park which opened to the public this summer, building on the huge success of our Aerial Extreme High Ropes Course. It fits in with Camp Hill’s ethos of being fun, educational, developing people skills and sense of achievement. The designer of the Maize Maze, Louise Sampson, has created something truly amazing and different for us.”
“I was more used to designing embroidery or knitting patterns”, says Louise Sampson. “This had to be done on a massive scale. It took nearly three weeks to mark out the four acre field. We have created a lot more paths than other mazes, over two miles in total. It is quite complex for visitors but at the same time creates more fun for them because they do love getting lost! I am absolutely thrilled with the result“.
It takes about an hour to an hour and a half to complete the whole maze. Camp Hill has created something for all ages as they find their way around the labyrinth of paths, solving clues to Birds of Prey puzzles. There are three levels of routes that can be taken depending on age and ability.
To compliment the theme there will be falconry displays twice a week.
In addition to the Maize Maze, visitors can get as active as they like and enjoy a great day out with all sorts of different outdoor adventure activities which cater for all ages and tastes. These include probably the best quad bike rides in Yorkshire, they can climb aboard a Segway for a breath taking tour of the grounds or get involved in the latest craze of Water Zorbing. They can also visit the award-winning home of Aerial Extreme and swing into action on the Adventure Ropes Course.
The Outdoor Adventure is open daily until 4th September and then at weekends after that until the end of October. It is open from 10am until 5.00pm and visitors must exit the park by 7.00pm.
